March 21 – May 2, 2015
Steve Turner is pleased to present Strings Attached, a solo exhibition by Amsterdam-based artist Jonas Lund which will feature twenty-four text-based paintings that relate to the current bubble moment in the contemporary art market. Each work has text that details the limitations on its transferability. “This painting may never be sold at auction” or “This painting must be resold by March 21, 2017” are good examples. With different fabric wallpaper as backgrounds, each work had its text painted onto it by a sign painter according to Lund’s design. As a whole, the twenty-four paintings describe the contradictory efforts made by gallerists to fuel the market momentum for their artists while also trying to shield them from damaging speculation.
